At Flamengo's squad presentation this morning in Gávea, coach Cuca said he expects many titles under his command. Showing considerable optimism, the coach praised the team's core team and the strength of the squad.

"When I was here in 2005, the situation was very different. I had a young group, without much experience. It was difficult, but we still managed to develop some players. Now the situation is different. We have a strong, experienced, and successful group, capable of winning the four competitions we'll be competing in. Maintaining the core is also extremely important. I believe we've come out a bit ahead by keeping practically the same team. Before the ball rolls, we can say that Flamengo has the stronger team."

Cuca praised Flamengo's two new signings, defender Douglas and midfielder Willians.

"They're two young players who really stood out playing for Santo André. They need time to gel, because Flamengo is different. But they could surprise and fit into the team right away."

The coach revealed that he had a conversation with striker Vandinho, who is being coveted by other clubs. According to Cuca, the player assured him that he wants to stay at Flamengo in 2009.

"Vandinho introduced himself, and I had a chat with him. He assured me he wanted to stay at Flamengo. I told him to resolve the situation quickly so he could just focus on finding his place on the team."
