Mauricio Barbieri's team currently occupies first place in the group with five points, followed by River Plate-ARG with the same score and tomorrow's opponent, with three points. Emelec-EQU is in last place with only one point. Before training, Cuéllar spoke to journalists and assured that Flamengo will be attacking in their quest to advance in the competition.

 

“Our goal, whether playing at home or away, in the Brazilian Championship or the Libertadores Cup, is to get the result. That’s been Flamengo’s approach throughout history. It won’t be any different here in Bogotá, and we will be looking to win. Obviously, we respect Santa Fe, which is a great team and played a good game in Brazil, but we will try for the three points,” he stated.

 

In last Saturday's (21) 2-0 victory against América-MG, in a match that marked the farewell of idol Julio Cesar from the pitch, another great milestone was reached. Cuéllar reached 100 games wearing the Sacred Mantle, a feat he spoke of with pride, also analyzing his chances of being among those chosen to represent Colombia at the World Cup in Russia.

 

“It was a very beautiful thing to have completed 100 games with Flamengo. It’s an important milestone for my career and helps me a lot more in my professional and life experience,” the midfielder celebrated. “In the national team, I believe I can be among those selected. I always think about the national team, but first and foremost, about establishing myself at Flamengo. It will be important if the opportunity to represent the national team arises again. I will be very proud,” he added.

 

The high level of expectation when representing a team like Flamengo was also one of the questions raised by the local press. Knowing the club's history of achievements and the great players who have represented the Rubro-Negro over the years, the Colombian addressed the issue naturally, embracing the responsibility of representing the beloved club.

 

“We had an obligation, which was to win the Campeonato Carioca, but unfortunately we didn't manage it. The pressure comes from this moment and from Flamengo's history. Because of everything they've achieved, because of the great players. It's a great team, the biggest club in Brazil, so it's normal. We have to live with it every day. In the Brasileirão, we've only played twice and we have a long championship ahead. But we need to be aware that we are a good team and that we can achieve great things,” concluded Cuéllar.

 

This Wednesday (25), the ball will roll from 21:45 pm, Brasília time, for the duel between Flamengo and Independiente Santa Fé, which will be played at the El Campín stadium, in Bogotá.
