David enjoyed a magical end to 2009. Starting in the final match of the Brazilian Championship, he scored one of the goals in Flamengo's 2-1 victory over Grêmio, giving Flamengo a national title it hadn't won in 17 years. After a strong finish to last season, the player is hoping for an even better 2010. In his first Libertadores, the defender is already dreaming big: he wants to win another title wearing the Sacred Mantle.

And this time, the Mantle will be different. This Friday, the club, in partnership with Olympikus, launched the model that will be used in 2010, and David was one of the players who participated in the event, parading in the white jersey. The player assures that he's not superstitious, but he's hoping for a good start, with a new outfit, in the South American competition.

"I don't have that kind of superstition, but it's always good to start with a win, right? I thought the shirt was really nice, lighter, made of a fabric that wasn't too hot, and I'm sure the fans will really like it," he said.

At 22, David Braz de Oliveira Filho is competing in his first Copa Libertadores. Despite this, the player insists he knows what it's like to compete in an international competition.

"It's my first time in the Libertadores, but I've played in other international competitions, and I know what it's like. It's very different from the Brazilian Championship and the Carioca Championship, so we know we'll have to work hard to win this title, which is our main objective," he explained.

For the defender, there's no secret to doing well in the Libertadores. He believes that with hard work, combined with the team's technical quality, Flamengo can compete for its second title.

"I think the secret is to work hard and unite the group even more, because that's how we won the Brazilian title last year. Everyone will try to do their best on the field so we can win this title. We know it won't be easy, but we'll fight for it," he noted.

But it's not just the Copa Libertadores that attracts David. The player also dreams of winning the Rio de Janeiro state championship for the fourth time. For him, Flamengo must enter the competition with the will to win every game it plays.

"There is no priority. We want to win the fourth Rio de Janeiro championship and also the Libertadores. Flamengo always goes out on the field to win, we have a very strong, quality group, and we can fight for both titles," he emphasized.

Regarding scoring another decisive goal, David is modest. He even believes he can score in a final, but he's content with helping the Gávea team win the title.

"I scored a goal in the last Brazilian league game, who knows, maybe it will happen in the Libertadores final too? But the important thing is to help the team. I hope to score at the beginning, in the middle, at the end... Either way, I just want to help," he concluded.
