David hopes to repeat his success from 2009.

The defender also earned a spot in the final game of last year and scored one of the goals in the sixth championship victory.

The end of 2010 is approaching, and in defender David's memory, the last round of the 2009 Brazilian Championship is still fresh. On that occasion, he scored one of Flamengo's goals in the 2-1 victory over Grêmio, which gave the Rubro-Negro their sixth national title in history, after 17 years, at the Maracanã. This year, the situation is quite different, but the defender will be on the field as a starter again, and hopes to be successful as well.

Last year, David was a reserve player, appearing in only 12 games and scoring just one goal – precisely one of the most important in the club's recent history. This season, he had more than double the opportunities of the last, 30 in total, but in the final rounds, he ended up on the bench. Nothing that diminished his motivation, however.

"I put in a lot of effort, I train hard every day, and I know I might have the chance to start playing or not. I'm very calm about it, and what matters to me is being prepared whenever necessary," he commented.

Coincidence or not, just like last year, he earns a starting spot in the final round of the Brazilian Championship. Success may not be the same, since Flamengo isn't fighting for the title, but who knows, maybe he can help the team secure an important qualification for the 2011 Copa Sudamericana?

"We know it wasn't the season we wanted. We had some problems and ended up in this situation. But hopefully it will have a happy ending and we can go to the Copa Sudamericana, fighting for four titles next year. Hopefully I can help the team achieve that result," he concluded.

David Braz de Oliveira Filho, from Guarulhos, São Paulo, is 23 years old and, in the middle of the year, renewed his contract with Flamengo for another five seasons. Signed last season on loan from Panathinaikos, Greece, he was bought outright due to his desire, talent, and quick identification with the club. The defender has already totaled 42 games, three goals, 15 warnings, and one red card for Flamengo.
