David wants a nickname for his "almost namesake"

Defender and striker are expected to play together on Sunday against Santos at Maracanã

"Hey, David." This simple phrase, used to call a teammate, has become somewhat ambiguous at Flamengo recently. After all, despite the different spellings, defender David and forward Deivid have names pronounced the same. So how can one avoid looking over their shoulder when someone calls out to the other?

That's what they're still trying to figure out. The red-and-black players are joking about the situation in good humor. One solution is to use their last names, Braz and Souza, another is to come up with a nickname for one of them. David, the oldest member of the group, reveals that the fight is intense.

"The fight is big. I hope we resolve it as quickly as possible because it's getting in the way (laughs)," he said.

The number 14 also revealed that his teammates have been joking around a lot in training to confuse their near namesakes. On Thursday, the two played together in a practice match against Sendas, and on Sunday, they're expected to start against Santos at the Maracanã.

"Sometimes the guys call David and I look, it's for him. And sometimes they do it as a joke. But we'll decide by Sunday," he added.
