David wants to start the classic match on the right foot.
The defender was kept in the starting lineup by Luxemburgo and believes he can help the team win.

There's no denying that David has a well-defined place in Flamengo's team today. When he arrived at Gávea in 2009, he wasn't a starter. First, he was Fabio Luciano's backup, then Álvaro's. But whenever he came on, he performed well and even scored Flamengo's first goal in the 2-1 victory over Grêmio, which gave the team from Gávea their sixth national championship title.
His success led to him gaining more playing time in 2010. He became a starter, renewed his contract, and now, under the management of Vanderlei Luxemburgo, he has firmly established himself. Besides his trademark good humor, for which he is known, the defender has the confidence of the group on the field.
"I am very happy for the confidence shown by Luxemburgo. We all know his quality and I will try to repay this opportunity in the best way possible. Always thinking about helping Flamengo," he said.
Despite being in good form, David doesn't consider himself an undisputed starter for Flamengo and sees all players in his position as equally capable of competing for a place in the first team.
"Coach Vanderlei picks whoever he believes is playing best at the moment, but Angelim and Jean are experienced, quality players who could also be starters. Fortunately, the partnership with Welinton worked well, and hopefully we'll have another good game on Sunday," he noted.
This Sunday, David plays his first derby against Vasco, and, of course, hopes to start his journey in this important match on the right foot.
"Hopefully I can help the team and come away with the victory. A good result against Vasco is always important and I will do everything I can to help the team achieve that," he concluded.
