Among the players who have yet to decide their future with Flamengo is defender David. David, who scored one of the goals in the 2-1 victory over Grêmio, which gave the club its sixth national championship title in 2009, and is considered a promising prospect, has yet to resolve his situation with Panathinaikos, but has expressed his desire to remain at Gávea for the long term.

"The renewal is moving forward. Panathinaikos has had a change in management, and my agent hasn't been able to talk to them yet. That's why we don't know what they want. But there's still time to resolve it, and I hope everything works out. We haven't finalized everything yet. I know Flamengo is interested, I want to stay, I'm happy, but it doesn't just depend on me. I'll respect the club, my contract, which expires on the 30th, and do everything I can to stay," he said.

David also commented on the signing of Jean, Flamengo's first reinforcement for the second half of 2010. Although the player plays the same position, the defender doesn't feel threatened. Quite the opposite. He believes Jean can help the red-and-black squad.

"Jean is another player to help us. We're happy for him, he's a teammate and we can even play together. We're sad for Álvaro, who helped us a lot, but we'll root for him, as he was a great friend," he said.

Known for his good humor, David believes that all players who eventually join the club will be warmly welcomed into the family formed by this squad.

"Leo Moura and Juan are the presidents of the 'rachão' teams. I'm just yelling and screaming. I don't even know which way I'm going to go after this restructuring. It's good to have this atmosphere between us. The kids arriving, and Jean, in addition to the other players who may be signed, will see how united we are, a real family. And if Zico participates, it will be an even greater pleasure," he concluded.
