David says he is ready to return to the starting lineup

Defender expected to play his first match since renewing his contract with Flamengo

By - in
On August 12, David signed a four-year contract extension with Flamengo. On June 5, when the team lost 2-1 to Goiás at the Maracanã, he made his final start for Flamengo. On August 14, he returned to the field, coming off the bench, in a 1-0 victory over Ceará. Now, next Sunday (September 05.09), he should have his first chance to start a match for Flamengo, in the match against Santos, the Maracanã's last match before its renovation for the 2014 World Cup.

The defender doesn't hide his excitement at the potential opportunity. Although coach Silas hasn't yet confirmed the lineup or the team's tactical formation, he has already announced that David will replace Jean, who is suspended, in the defense. Even so, the number 14 is cautious when discussing Sunday's game.

"We still don't know how Professor Silas will select the team, but there is a gap in the position and I will try to work hard so that, if he decides on me, I can respond in the best way possible," he said.

The defender, however, says he's prepared for the challenge of starting. Physically, he's in good shape. He's been trying to improve his match fitness with practice matches at Gávea. And he promises to overcome any problems with sheer willpower.

"I've been saying since I signed with Panathinaikos that I'm training hard and ready to play again. I hope to perform on the field and help the team win," he concluded.
