With a new look, but with the same objective
Luxa selects a different team to continue the fight to escape the relegation zone and reach the South American Cup

A different lineup, a young team, and the same goal. Back at 442 and confident in the potential of young Guilherme, just 18 years old, as well as the star striker Val Baiano and the return of Maldonado, Flamengo hosts Atlético-PR at 19:30 pm in Volta Redonda. And the only result that matters to the Rio de Janeiro red-and-blacks is a victory, so the team can move further away from the relegation zone and remain among the teams competing in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana.
Back at Raulino de Oliveira Stadium, where he scored his first goal for Flamengo, Val Baiano is highly motivated. The striker knows that a victory against Furacão is crucial at this juncture and is banking on a positive result to keep Flamengo in contention for the international competition.
"We know the responsibility. Playing for Flamengo is always like this. We have to get 46 points and seek a spot in the South American as quickly as possible. That's why sometimes we think more about the positive side. If we think about relegation, the pressure is greater. We're focused on the South American. We won't look back," said Val.
With 40 points, Flamengo sits in 13th place, facing Atlético, which has 50 and dreams of a spot in next year's Copa Libertadores. This is a clash between Flamengo and Atlético, who are intent on winning at all costs, despite competing for different things in the competition. For Val, Flamengo needs to finish the year strong to start planning for the 2011 season.
"The mistakes we made this year cannot be repeated next year. Flamengo is not a team to be fighting for the South American Cup, but rather for the title. Flamengo always fights to be champion. It has never failed to win anywhere. It will be no different here," he stated.
Bet on the boy – Known for encouraging significant investment in the youth teams, coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo is expected to give young Guilherme a chance in this Sunday's match. The midfielder, recently promoted from the youth team, trained with the starting eleven and is expected to start. He is delighted, grateful for the opportunity and promises to seize it with all his might.
"He's giving me a lot of support, he's telling me to take it easy, my time will come, I'm still very young. My teammates help me a lot. I don't know if I'll start playing yet, but he's given me the peace of mind to play my game," he added.
If Luxa maintains the lineup from Saturday's training session (06.11), the team will take to the field with Marcelo Lomba, Leonardo Moura, Welinton, Ronaldo Angelim and Juan; Maldonado, Willians, Renato and Guilherme; Deivid and Val Baiano.
