He's only a boy in age.

From a raw young player who turned professional in 2007 and began to earn his place at Flamengo, to the young, fast, and precise center-back who won a starting spot under Vanderlei Luxemburgo, Welinton has evolved significantly in just under three years. His age is that of a boy. His personality is that of a grown man.
One of the few young players in Flamengo's starting lineup, the defender assures that he doesn't feel the lack of a little more experience. He knows the importance of having a background in football, but emphasizes that he will only gain that as he continues his work, as he has been doing in this final stretch of the Brazilian Championship.
"Experience counts, but you only get it by playing, every Wednesday, every Sunday, playing against the big teams in the Brazilian Championship. You learn day by day. It's important to play a match like this, and the fundamental thing is to go in to win. That's what matters," he said.
With the confidence of coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo, who promoted him to the starting lineup and never took him out of the Flamengo defense again, Welinton knows he needs to keep fighting tooth and nail to stay in the main team and help Flamengo in the Brazilian Championship.
"It's important to have the coach's confidence. I earned that through hard work and a lot of struggle, but I know I have to perform well in each round to keep getting opportunities," he concluded.
Welinton starts again this Saturday (November 20.11th) against Guarani. Fla should play with Marcelo Lomba, Leo Moura, Welinton, Ronaldo Angelim and Juan; Maldonado, Willians, Kleberson and Renato; Diogo and Deivid.
