By Paulo Neto - inOn the afternoon of this Wednesday (16), Flamengo faced Madureira in the seventh round of the Campeonato Carioca, in Conselheiro Galvão. In a comeback, Mengão won 2-1, with goals from Everton Ribeiro and Willian Arão.
Now, Flamengo turns its attention to the Brazilian Super Cup, this Sunday (20), at Arena Pantanal, in Cuiabá, against Atlético-MG.

The game
Flamengo started the match looking to attack, but right from the first attack, Madureira won back the ball and mounted a counterattack. Ygor Catatau raced down the left and finished with a cross to open the scoring.
The red-and-black team responded quickly: Pedro received a good cross into the box, but controlled it and couldn't finish. In the first half, Mengão tried to create opportunities, mainly through Marinho and Vitinho, but were unsuccessful.
In the 26th minute, João Gomes broke free down the left and crossed to Pedro; the striker stretched out but couldn't connect. In the final stretch of the first half, the Mais Querido's first substitution was made: Arão came on to replace Andreas Pereira.
At half-time, Everton Ribeiro came on to replace Marinho and the changes soon took effect.
In the 14th minute, Flamengo equalized! Renê had the ball on the left and found Vitinho in the middle; the number 11 crossed, Arão headed it in, and Everton Ribeiro was there to finish.
Soon after, Renê found Pedro inside the box; the striker set up a dangerous shot, forcing a great save from the opposing goalkeeper. Bruno Henrique and Matheuzinho came on to replace Vitinho and Isla, respectively. And on his first attempt, the number 27 cut in at speed and finished with a cross. Flamengo grew into the game.
In the 23rd minute, the breakthrough came! After a back-and-forth in the box, Pedro's shot spun out, and the ball bounced into the corner; Arão appeared and slotted it into the corner with great skill: a beautiful goal for the number 5.
Flamengo's final change was David Luiz, who replaced Renê. Flamengo maintained its momentum in search of a third goal. Pedro and João Gomes exchanged passes, and the Flamengo striker was free, but he wasted no time on the ball and couldn't finish. In the closing stages, Pedro had one last chance, but his shot went just wide of the post. Thus, Willian Arão's goal sealed the victory.
