Mengão came from behind! In a postponed match from the 23rd round of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo defeated Grêmio 4-2 on Thursday night (28), at Arena do Grêmio, in Porto Alegre. The Rubro-Negro's goals were scored by Everton Ribeiro, Gabigol, Arrascaeta and Isla. After starting off behind, Mengão fought back in the second half and managed to turn the tables, putting them back in second place in the competition, reducing the gap to the leader to four points.
The game
The first half began with the teams studying each other closely, with Flamengo working the ball from foot to foot, looking for gaps in the Grêmio defense. In the eleventh minute, Mengão threatened for the first time. Arrascaeta delivered a great pass to Gabigol, who burst into the box and shot with his left foot, but Vanderlei made a good save.
The red-and-black team gradually loosened up the match and created good attacking opportunities. In the 32nd minute, Gerson received a good pass from Filipe Luís and fired a cross. Vanderlei went down to make the save. Next, Everton Ribeiro passed to Gabigol, who burst into the box and shot, but the ball went out of bounds. In the 39th minute, Grêmio opened the scoring with a header from Diego Souza: 1-0.
Flamengo came out in the second half attacking Grêmio more, but still lacked the final pass. In the 11th minute, Mengão leveled the score! Arrascaeta delivered a beautiful pass to Gabigol, who burst into the box and passed to Everton Ribeiro to finish: 1-1.
And the comeback came three minutes later! After an exchange of passes, Gabigol received the ball at the edge of the box and finished perfectly into Vanderlei's right corner: 2-1. And Mengão wanted more and scored the third! Bruno Henrique passed the ball perfectly to Gabigol, who found Arrascaeta free in the box to extend the lead to 3-1. In the 39th minute, Grêmio reduced the deficit with a Diego Souza free kick: 3-2.
In stoppage time, the Mais Querido (Most Beloved) scored their fourth goal and sealed the match. Vitinho drove through the middle and delivered a good pass to Isla. The full-back, despite a tight angle, managed to beat Vanderlei and seal the red-and-black victory, away from home, 4-2.
