Monday was a show for Mengão at Maraca! In the main squad's 2020 debut, the "Mais Querido" defeated Resende 3-1, delighting the more than 53 Flamengo fans (a record attendance for the year) at the "Biggest in the World." Pedro, Gabigol, and Bruno Henrique scored Flamengo's goals in the match, which was part of the fifth round of the Guanabara Cup.

The game

In the first half, Mengão, in excellent form, created numerous chances. And it was Bruno Henrique who came closest to scoring. In the 37th minute, the King of Classics cut inside and hit the crossbar with a powerful shot. Then, in the 38th minute, the same Bruno Henrique fired a powerful shot that the goalkeeper saved. 

In the second half, Mengão continued to attack, but it was Resende who took the lead on a quick counterattack in the 19th minute. Alef Manga struck hard, into Diego Alves' corner. With the introduction of Pedro, Michael, and Gerson, Resende improved and grew offensively. In the 29th minute, Pedro, one of the night's debutants, shot; the ball deflected off a defender and went in: 1-1. The turnaround came with Gabigol, who received a beautiful cross from Bruno Henrique and scored with a header in the 39th minute. In the 42nd minute, BH closed the scoring after receiving a beautiful pass from Pedro: 3-1. And that was it.

With the result, Mengão took second place in Group A of the Taça Guanabara with 10 points, the same score as leader Boavista.

Flamengo returns to action on Saturday against Madureira in the sixth round of the Guanabara Cup. The match will be played at 18 p.m. at the Maraca stadium.
