In its return to the Campeonato Carioca, Flamengo faces the Clássico da Rivalidade (Rivalry Classic). This Saturday, Mengão faces Botafogo at Nilton Santos in the third round of the 2018 Taça Rio. The team is coming off a loss to Fluminense and will need to go to full strength to bounce back in the competition.
Last Wednesday, Flamengo drew with River Plate in their Libertadores debut. On Thursday, the team returned to training for this Saturday's derby. In their final training session, on Friday, midfielder Jonas spoke to reporters about the importance of today's match and expressed confidence in victory.

"Regardless of the coach or the opponent, we know we have to play a great game and go after a positive result. We know the team. There have been some changes, but that won't affect us. We just have to put into practice what we've been working on every day, and I'm sure we'll get a good result."
