Back and in the fight for the starting spot

David celebrates his return to official matches for Flamengo and predicts a strong fight for positions in defense.

David's wait is finally over. Last Saturday (August 14.08), the defender was able to once again wear the full Flamengo uniform. He focused, participated in team talks, and was named in the squad for the match against Ceará. He started on the bench but came on in the second half and relived the thrill of playing at the Maracanã stadium in front of the home crowd, and leaving the field to a standing ovation after a victory. Now, he just wants a run to regain his starting spot and continue bringing joy to the Red-Black Nation.

The player spoke with Flamengo's official website and analyzed the situation he's been through, as well as revealing his expectations for the future. The number 14 hopes to once again be the main option in the Flamengo defense, alongside Ronaldo Angelim, and anticipates a strong fight for this spot. As coach Rogério Lourenço already knows, the idea is to give the manager a serious headache when it comes to forming the team.

Check out the full interview below.

Anxiety - I couldn't wait to get back to playing. That's what all players want: to play, to represent Flamengo well, especially in front of the fans. I trusted, I was calm, I kept my head, and, thank God, everything worked out in the best possible way. I was very happy to be participating again with my teammates, because before I was just training, and even more so because we won.

The return - I talked to Professor Rogério, and he decided to leave me on the bench. I understood his point of view, and I ended up coming on during the match. It was a bit of a relief. I was really missing him. Now I'll keep working for next week's game.

Ownership -
I was a Flamengo starter before this whole situation, and I hope to be again. But I know it won't be easy. Jean was playing very well, Welinton also came into the team well, and the battle will be healthy and very good for Flamengo. The one who will have a real headache is coach Rogério, who will field whoever he thinks is best for the team.

Cheerleaders -
I've received a lot of affection from the fans since I arrived at the club, and now, during this time of uncertainty regarding my contract, too. I'm very grateful to everyone, and, as I always say, I can't repay them better than by giving my all on the field. And that's what I'll do.

Defense -
The defense is very good. If I'm not mistaken, it has the best defense in this period of the Brazilian Championship after the World Cup and one of the best in the competition, so it's all praise. But it's not just the defenders and the goalkeeper who are responsible for this, but the entire team. The team is putting in a lot of effort, and that's crucial.

Atlético-PR -
We know it's going to be a tough match. Facing Atlético at the Arena is never easy, but we have a full week to work on, for the new players, like Renato and Leandro, to gel even more, and I'm certain we'll go to Curitiba to put in a great performance.
