The heavy rain that hit Rio de Janeiro was not enough to prevent a great game from taking place at Maracanã this Sunday (14.03). Flamengo beat Vasco 1-0, with a goal from Adriano, and returns to the top of Group A of the Taça Rio. The star of the match, however, was goalkeeper Bruno, who saved two penalties taken by Dodô.
And the red-black victory will give greater peace of mind to the team, which returns to the field this Wednesday (17.03), for the Copa Santander Libertadores, against Universidad do Chile, in Santiago.
"Congratulations to the whole team. Winning a classic is always important. Now we're back at the top of the standings and we're heading to the Copa Libertadores with confidence. We especially have to congratulate Bruno, who saved two penalties," said Juan.
And Flamengo's players are already focused on the South American competition.
"It was a great, important victory, but now we need to rest. We have to recover, as we have a tough challenge ahead of us in Chile," said Álvaro.
The game started hotly, and Flamengo nearly opened the scoring after just two minutes. Vagner Love was fouled in Vasco's half, and Fabrício unleashed a powerful shot.
