Deivid arrives honored to fulfill an old dream

Striker celebrates chance to play for Flamengo and says he's ready for responsibility

At 30 years old, Deivid, in a resume that includes, among others, two Brazilian titles and a Brazilian Cup, and successful stints in European football, such as with Fenerbahçe in recent seasons, was missing the opportunity to fulfill a long-held dream. And he did it on Monday night (August 23.08): he wore the Flamengo jersey, something he had wanted since childhood.

"I'm from Rio, I didn't have the opportunity before, I went to São Paulo young and now I know the responsibility of wearing the Flamengo shirt. I'm used to the pressure, I've played for several big teams and for me this won't be a problem. I have to give my all on the field, run and try to do my best to help the team," said the player.

In a press conference held in the Salão Nobre da Gávea, Deivid did not hide his pride in representing Flamengo from now on and explained how the negotiation came about.

"Zico called me, saying he was going to take over as director and asked if I wanted to come back. We talked, I explained the situation, and that's how the negotiations unfolded. I'm very honored to represent Flamengo. It's a great feeling and satisfaction to be here with his support. I know what it means. It's a dream come true, and now I hope to play great games and score goals for Flamengo," said the striker, who is expected to make his debut on September 5th against Santos, wearing Flamengo's number 99 jersey.

"The number 9 belongs to Val Baiano and as I played with the number 99 in Turkey, I chose this one. I asked if I could use it and Professor Isaias Tinoco said it wouldn't be a problem", concluded Deivid, who returns to Turkey to resolve personal issues and will join Flamengo permanently on Friday (27.08).
