The striker says that pre-season training and the coach's planning can make all the difference for Flamengo.

It's not just Flamengo's management that's betting on Vanderlei Luxemburgo's talent to lead the team back to winning titles in the 2011 season. The players have also demonstrated their complete confidence in the coach's abilities to plan for the coming year. It is with this partnership between coach and players that the team from Gávea hopes to have a memorable year.
Maldonado, who worked with Luxa at Santos and Cruzeiro, stated that it is indeed possible to dream of titles in 2011. Deivid, who also knows the coach well, having been coached by Luxa at three different teams in his career, agrees and has faith in the coach's work for next year.
"Knowing Luxemburgo as I do, Flamengo will be fighting for titles. We worked together at Cruzeiro, Santos, and Corinthians. When he plans from the beginning of the year, the team has everything it needs to compete for titles in the competitions we will be playing in," he said.
Deivid himself is an important asset for the season that begins on January 19th, in the opening match against Volta Redonda. Aware that 2010 was not a good year, he hopes that the team, and he himself individually, will perform better with a well-executed pre-season next month.
"It wasn't the comeback I was expecting, it was disappointing, I was expecting something bigger. We know the team didn't perform the way the fans wanted, it didn't perform like the former champions, but that's in the past now, we stayed in Serie A and we have to have a good pre-season, with dedication, to make 2011 a year worthy of Flamengo's traditions," he concluded.
The 31-year-old striker arrived at Flamengo in August, signing a two-season contract, and made his debut in September, playing 17 times for the Rubro-negro and scoring four goals.
