On vacation, Deivid and Willians promise to stay tuned to the television this Wednesday (08.12), cheering for Flamengo. After finishing the Brasileirão in 14th place, the Rubro-negro will only secure a spot in the 2011 Copa Sudamericana if Goiás does not win the title, precisely on Wednesday, against Independiente, from Argentina.
Aware that Flamengo should have done its homework and earned its spot on its own merits, Deivid still believes that a gift could arrive at the end of the year.
"Ideally, Flamengo would have secured a direct spot. But since that wasn't possible, we'll have to hope Independiente wins. Goiás has a reasonable advantage at home, but playing in Argentina is always difficult," said the experienced Deivid, referring to the 2-0 win by Esmeraldino last week.
Elected as the third best right-hand midfielder in the Brasileirão, in an award offered by the CBF on the night of last Monday (06.12), Willians said that he does not usually support Argentine teams, but will make an exception this time.
"Normally I support Brazilian clubs in international tournaments, but tomorrow (Wednesday) I'll have to 'dry' Goiás because of the spot in the South American. If it were the other way around, I'm sure they (Goiás players) would do the same," he concluded.
CHARITY GAME IN SANTOS
Before getting glued to the TV, the two Flamengo players, alongside their idol Zico and fellow Flamengo fans David Braz, Renato Abreu and Val Baiano, will take part in a charity match between Santos' friends Narciso and Neymar and Fluminense's friends Deivid and Deco.
The event, titled "Christmas Without Hunger 2010," will be held at 18:30 p.m. in Vila Belmiro. The entrance fee is one kilogram of non-perishable food. All proceeds will be donated to three charitable organizations in Baixada Santista and the capital.
