Deivid spends the weekend training hard

The striker hopes to get into the rhythm to take the field against Santos, at Maracanã

Making his Flamengo debut in the club's final match at Maracanã (Santos – September 05.09) before the stadium closes for World Cup construction. This is the goal of Deivid, recently signed by the reigning Brazilian champions. The striker, who signed a two-year contract, spent the entire preseason with his former club, Fenerbache, in Turkey, but now needs to recondition and regain match fitness to take the field for the "Most Beloved."

To make this happen, Deivid worked hard over the weekend at Gávea. While the red-and-black squad traveled to Campinas to face Guarani, the striker stayed in Rio training hard on Saturday and Sunday.

"The training sessions were quite demanding, but that's exactly what I expected, as I have to get back to the same level of conditioning as the other players as quickly as possible. Starting this Monday afternoon (30/08), I believe I'll start some technical work and then we'll move on to tactical training," said Flamengo's number 99.

Without wanting to rush things, Deivid knows that to deliver on all the commitment that Flamengo fans demand on the field, he needs time and a lot of dedication.

"A week is enough time for me to be ready to make my debut. If everything goes well, on Sunday (05.09) I will be able to face Santos and I am very motivated to step onto the field for the first time wearing the sacred jersey," said the goalscorer.

Like the rest of the squad, Deivid will also meet the new Flamengo manager this Monday. But before that, he's already left a welcome message for Silas.

"I've never worked with Silas, but I've always heard positive comments about his work. He's part of the new generation of good coaches in Brazilian football and has everything it takes to be successful here at Flamengo," he concluded.
