Deivid promises to "come with everything" in 2011

Striker acknowledges year below expectations, but is confident of improvement for next season

2010 wasn't a good year for Flamengo. The same applies to striker Deivid. He joined the club in the second half of the year, but for various reasons, he wasn't able to play his best football. Aware that he needs to improve for next season, the number 99 is confident that 2011 will be better.

"I'm leaving a little upset because this wasn't what I wanted. We wanted to finish well, with a place in the Libertadores. The club was champion the year before, and a lot was expected, a lot was expected of the signings that came in. We're upset," he said.

Striker Deivid knows his individual performance wasn't the best either. The number 99 admits he was also a bit disappointed. He says he understands the fans' pressure, who would like to see him perform at his peak. According to him, it's time to reflect, rest, and prepare for a good preseason next year.

"I was also expecting a good year. There was a lot of expectation because I'd won at the clubs I'd played for, because I'd always scored goals. They wanted to see the Deivid of 2002, 2003, 2004. I'm aware of that. I hope now to reflect, work well in preseason, and be in good physical shape. Next year, everything will be different. I'm sure I'll come out with everything. We hope that in 2011, from the beginning, we can do a great job. I hope I can do what I was doing at other teams," said the player, who explains the reasons for his not performing so well.

"I think everything got in the way. I was out of action for a long time, I arrived amidst turmoil, a radical change. I never liked making excuses. When you arrive, they expect you to deliver. That wasn't what happened. I know the pressure, my potential, and my quality. I always hold myself accountable. I know my responsibility. I had some setbacks, and the team didn't perform well. Some of the players I signed didn't perform well. Maybe if everything had gone well, my performances, Diogo's, Renato's, and Val Baiano's, wouldn't have been noticed," he concluded.
