The only club considered to be a major player in Rio de Janeiro football that has never been relegated to the second division of the Brazilian Championship, Flamengo knows it needs to be aware of the danger of falling just a few points behind the last four teams in the competition.
Striker Deivid, who has already won two Brasileirão titles, believes that even with the quality of the group, which has the ability to seek the top positions, it is necessary to work hard to avoid any type of accident.
"The trend is only to improve, but we know we need to add points and keep an eye on the fish and the other on the cat to avoid difficulties in the competition. We are six points ahead of the relegation zone and we have to increase that gap even further," he said.
The striker asks the team to maintain the focus they have shown in recent rounds in Wednesday's game (22.09), against Grêmio, to take another step towards moving away from the bottom positions and continue on the path to the top of the table.
"The championship is tough and we can't let up and get into the relegation zone. We need to be focused and pick up points to move away from that zone soon," said the player, who believes in a comeback and is rooting for his strike partner, Diogo, to score his first goal.
"Last year, Flamengo won nine games in a row and became champions. Great players, great men, appear in the most difficult moments. I hope Diogo can score the goal and open the floodgates to help us get back on track," he added.
