Everyone already knew that striker Deivid is a Flamengo fan at heart. But his love for the club, cherished throughout his years as a professional, promises to be rekindled stronger than ever. After signing a two-year deal with Flamengo, the striker revealed that he couldn't sleep a wink from Wednesday to Thursday (August 19.08).
Still in Türkiye, Deivid gave an interview to Flamengo's Official Website and revealed that he has been experiencing moments of intense joy and anticipation.
"Wow! I didn't sleep well last night and every time I stop to think, I imagine what it will be like to step onto the field wearing a Flamengo shirt at the Maracanã. My expectations are the best possible and I hope to get to Rio soon so that all of this can become a reality. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the hundreds of messages that were sent to my website (www.deividgol.com.br) and to send a big hug to the entire enormous Rubro-negra nation. We'll be together soon," said Deivid.
In addition to playing for the club he supports, the striker will return to live in Rio de Janeiro, where he left 12 years ago to pursue his career as a professional player, and he can't wait to live closer to his family, full of Flamengo fans.
"It's a dream come true. My whole family is Flamengo fans, and the fact that I never played in Rio was always something that was missing in my career. I'm very happy and I can't wait to be presented with the Flamengo shirt," explained Deivid, citing his biggest supporter, his mother, who passed away two years ago.
"My mother passed away about two years ago. But I'm sure she's always watching over me from up there and was very happy about me going to Flamengo."
And it wasn't just Deivid's family who were happy with the striker's signing with the Red-Blacks. Whenever he could, the striker, on vacation, would visit the Marechal Hermes neighborhood, where he lived before leaving Rio, to see his friends.
"Over the years, whenever I was on vacation, I would spend a few days in Rio and, of course, visit my friends in Marechal Hermes. I'm very proud of my origins, and now that I'm going to live in Rio, I'll definitely be in constant contact with the people in the community," he promised.
Regarding his future teammates, Deivid hopes to find a good working environment, and from what he's heard, that's exactly what awaits him, as the relaxed atmosphere is a hallmark of Flamengo's current squad.
"That's really cool. I think in any work environment you have moments of seriousness and moments of relaxation. That way, everyone is happy and ends up performing better, each in their role. I've always gotten along well with my teammates at the clubs I've played for, and I'm sure it will be no different at Flamengo," he clarified, explaining that he just needs the chemistry to perform at his best in the sacred mantle.
"I've been in Europe for five years, but I think I can quickly readapt to Brazilian football. I participated in Fenerbahçe's preseason, was training normally, and I just need some time to get comfortable with the team," he concluded.
