Deivid dreams of making history at Flamengo
After a month at the club and increasingly adapted, number 99 hopes to be successful at Gávea
By From the team at Flamengo's official website - inWith just over a month at Flamengo, striker Deivid is already better adapted to Brazilian football, more in tune with his new teammates, and ready to take off wearing the Sacred Mantle. At 30, the center forward arrived at Gávea as one of the red-and-black team's goalscoring hopes. He had to battle a lack of match fitness and the differences between Brazilian football and European football, where he had been for three seasons, but he is gradually improving.
In nine games for the Rubro-Negro, Deivid has already scored two goals: against Fluminense and Goiás. Interestingly, both goals came in draws. Now, this Thursday (September 07.09th), the striker hopes to help the team secure a victory against Atlético-GO in Volta Redonda. For him, this match is crucial.
Gávea's number 99 spoke with Flamengo's official website team and shared his thoughts on his first month at the club. Check out the full interview below.
Game against Atlético - This game against Atlético is what's popularly called a six-point game. Therefore, we can't even think of any other outcome than a victory. We respect the opposing team; we know they also desperately need a win, but for us, achieving this result is essential to climb the table.
Group atmosphere - The atmosphere here is good, the squad is strong, and I believe we have every chance of growing. There's still time to string together a winning streak. Of course, we have to take it one step at a time, but I believe we can build momentum in the near future.
Evolution - I'm improving. I hadn't played in a while, I had to recondition myself, readapt to Brazilian football, to my new teammates... But I'm happy and know I can still be a big help to Flamengo in this championship.
Flamengo - I'm very happy. It's great to play for Flamengo. Of course, the pressure is great, but so is the support, and that only motivates us. With each match, I'm becoming more capable and I hope to bring much joy to the Flamengo fans.
Pairing with Diogo - We'd never played together before, so a bit of a disconnect at first is common, but Diogo and I understand each other very well, on and off the field, and I believe we're on the rise. As much as possible, we'll try to score goals and help Flamengo win.
Vanderlei Luxemburgo - He's an intelligent guy who has already achieved a lot, both as a player and as a coach. He's experienced and knows how to manage a team, and that definitely makes a difference. I believe his work can bear fruit here at Flamengo. I'm very happy with his arrival and I'm sure he can help us a lot. I had great seasons working with Luxemburgo; we won titles together, and we'll do everything we can to make that happen again, this time with Flamengo.
