While Denis Marques hasn't been getting many opportunities this season, the striker can say that whenever they come, he delivers. In the three games he's started (the friendly against Brasília, the state championship match against Friburguense, and the Brasileirão opener against São Paulo), Denis has made his mark. This season, he's played four games, started three, and scored three goals. But the number 11 wants more.
After his good performance against Tricolor Paulista, Denis dreams of a sequence of games to continue proving his worth.
"I was very happy with this opportunity. I've been waiting for this opportunity for some time and I think I did well. This is important to gain confidence. I know I can help Flamengo and with a string of games I hope to continue scoring goals and proving that I can be useful," said the player, who thanked teammate Michael for the beautiful pass that led to his goal.
"It was a great pass from Michael, I even thanked him after the goal. That's when you need to be calm. Rogério is a great goalkeeper, but I was calm and collected enough to finish, and I was lucky," he explained.
A new opportunity could arise next weekend, when the Red-Blacks face Vitória on Saturday in the second round of the Brasileirão. Some starters may be rested again for the Libertadores quarterfinals, and the striker hopes to start again.
"Rogério gave me this chance, and I know I have the possibility of playing next weekend as well. Every player needs a run of games to perform at their best, and I'm no different. I'm happy, working hard and calmly to take advantage of the opportunities that arise," he said.
Before that, however, the player is expected to be on the bench for the first leg of the international competition's quarterfinals against Universidad de Chile at the Maracanã Stadium. If necessary, Denis guarantees he'll be eager to shine again.
"Wednesday's game is very important. I was happy to be registered for the Libertadores and I hope to be with the group for this match, which is crucial for Flamengo in the competition. If I have the opportunity to play, everyone can be sure that I will do my best to do well," he added.
