Flamengo and Grêmio have decided the Brazilian Championship twice. The first time was in 1982, in a three-game final. The first match ended in a 1-1 draw at the Maracanã Stadium. The second match ended in a 0-0 draw at the Olímpico Stadium in Porto Alegre. In the final match, Flamengo won 1-0, with a goal by Nunes, securing their second national title.
In the second round, the "decision" was in the final round of the 2009 Brazilian Championship. According to the points system, Flamengo needed to win at home to avoid relying on any result. Grêmio opened the scoring with Roberson in the 21st minute. David Braz equalized eight minutes later, and in the second half, Ronaldo Angelim scored the winning goal in the 24th minute.
Across all competitions, a match between Grêmio and Flamengo hasn't ended in a draw in three years (or six matches). The last draw was on December 3, 6: 07-12, Brasileiro, Arena do Grêmio, goals by Luiz Antônio for Flamengo and Luan for Grêmio. In the last six matches, each team has won three.
