After the storm, expectation of calm

Renato recalls that difficulties in 2005 turned into the 2006 Copa do Brasil title

Accustomed to fighting for places in the last editions of the Copa Libertadores and with the recent title, last year, Flamengo has not been in a difficult situation in the Brazilian Championship since 2005, five seasons ago, when it also fought against the relegation zone until the last rounds of the competition.

One of the remaining members of that team is midfielder Renato. One of the leaders of that group, he remembers that the squad, at the time, wasn't very experienced and knows that the mistakes made, both that season and this one, cannot be repeated.

"We have a more mature and experienced team than we did in 2005. Now, we all have to look at the mistakes we made and learn from them, one by one," he commented.

The number 11 also remembers that that season was a kind of wake-up call that some things needed to improve for the future. It worked. The team began a four-year streak of winning at least one title, with the 2006 Copa do Brasil. Then came the three-time state title (2007 to 2009) and the sixth national title (2009).

"I hope it's the same, because it was a tough time, we came out at the end and went for titles," he added.
