Responsible for providing strength, stamina, and speed to the football squad, Marcelo Martorelli, Daniel Félix, and Diogo Linhares are being honored this Tuesday (September 01.09st), Physical Education Professional's Day. They are the physical trainers on Flamengo's permanent coaching staff who, along with Ricardo Henrique, have been giving the team plenty of energy.
All three have won titles, both in the youth categories and for the club's professional team. Having been with Flamengo the longest, Marcelo Martorelli began his journey at Gávea in 1990. The last trophy he lifted before reaching the main team was the Taça BH de Futebol Júnior in 2003. Promoted the following year, he participated in numerous victorious campaigns, such as two Copa do Brasil titles (2006 and 2013) and a Campeonato Brasileiro title (2009).
The stories of Daniel Félix and Diogo Linhares are divided into two parts. Daniel completed a three-year internship and was hired in 2001 as a youth team coach. He left in 2005, but returned in 2010 to work with the Juniors and, in 2011, was part of the team that won the Copa São Paulo de Juniores, the main competition in that category, before being integrated into the professional team. Under Jayme de Almeyda, he won the Copa do Brasil in 2013 and the State Championship in 2014.
Diogo's first stint lasted from 2002 to 2011, the last two years with the main team, which resulted in an undefeated State Championship (2011) title. The OPG Tournament and the Macaé Cup U-17 (considered the Brazilian Championship at the time) were some of the titles won by the youth teams. In 2009, his work was rewarded with a call-up to the Brazilian U-20 National Team, which would become South American champion and World runner-up. After experiences elsewhere, he returned to the Flamengo youth team in 2014 and has been part of the permanent coaching staff of the professional football team since the first half of 2015.
