This Friday (31), Flamengo returned to Ninho do Urubu for the penultimate training session before the clash against Ceará. After the work led by Maurício Barbieri, midfielder Diego spoke to the press at a press conference at CT.
"I thank you once again for everything our fans have done for us. The last game, before, during, and after, was a great example of this. Their attitude made us extremely proud. But this will not make us complacent. Our group is very focused, and we will only be satisfied when we achieve our goal, which is to be champion. Only then will we be able to repay this trust in the best way. It is essential to have this relationship and connection with the fans; they speak for themselves and make all the difference. Having them by our side is a privilege, so we will use this as motivation to continue winning and growing," Diego exclaimed.
August balance
"August was intense. It was an important period, and our goal was to stay in all competitions. We didn't make it in one, so we feel like it could have been better. On the other hand, there are two extremely important tournaments left. We're going to give it our all to win the titles," said the number 10.
Defensive system and absence of Léo Duarte and Cuéllar against Ceará
"To maintain a high level, the team needs to defend well and concede few goals. The defensive system starts up front, as the team needs to work together and stay compact. This is a number we can improve, and we're paying close attention to it. To remain at the top, we need to constantly push ourselves and evolve. These are two extremely important players. Léo is getting better and better; he's a unique player. This helps us a lot. Cuéllar has been maintaining a very high level for some time, with a lot of dedication and desire. However, I fully believe in whoever comes in and that it will be a competitive team. We have a good squad, and it's natural for key players to be out sometimes. Whoever Barbieri picks is certainly capable of fighting for victory."
Match against Ceará
"It will be a tough game. They played well against São Paulo. They had the opportunity to open the scoring when the score was 0-0. The Brazilian Championship has shown time and again that it has to respect its opponents and work hard to win. The best way to move forward is to view the next match as the most important one. We'll go full force and aim for victory."
CBF refuses to postpone the Copa do Brasil semifinal
"Personally, I'm disappointed. I completely agree with what our president said. Sometimes, you have to be sensible. How can we not talk about this if our calendar is insane and disorganized? We, who are directly involved in football, are the ones who suffer from this. If they make poor decisions about the calendar and impose inhumane conditions with schedules that don't meet, this common sense is necessary to change and mitigate this loss. Flamengo will be ready regardless of the match day; we will go with whoever is available and we will go all out."
