Diego Alves celebrates victory in the classic: "Happy with the team's performance"
The goalkeeper made some great saves and was very important for Flamengo against Botafogo.
By Mariana Sa - inFlamengo beat Botafogo 1-0 on Saturday afternoon (3) and secured the lead in their group in the Taça Rio, the second round of the Campeonato Carioca. After the game, goalkeeper Diego Alves, one of the highlights of the match, spoke to the press in the mixed zone of the Nilton Santos stadium.
"I'm happy with the team's performance; we managed to survive with one less player on the field. The most important thing about all of this isn't my defense, but the players' behavior and the victory. When I can contribute to positive results, I want to do so in the best way possible," he said.
"I believe the fans appreciate the victory because they enjoy this moment. We know the incident at Ilha do Urubu hurts us, but we need to stop and think that we're always playing on a different field, in a rival's stadium, in a match against them. We also played after a U-20 match, and the field was worn out. We also need to acknowledge the victory, not just the performance. We have to be happy about the moment; when the Conmebol Libertadores comes, we'll focus on that again. But now we need to celebrate what the athletes and Flamengo have been doing," he added.
Mais Querido returns to the field next Wednesday (7), at 21:45 pm, against Boavista for the 4th round of the Taça Rio.
