After taking the lead with a goal from Leandro Damião, the Mais Querido saw their rival equalize early in the second half. However, Mengão did not give up and scored the winning goal with Fernandinho after a mistake by tricolor full-back Wellington Silva. With the result, the Maior do Mundo is even closer to the leader Palmeiras, the difference is now just one point. After the game, midfielder Diego, who remains undefeated with the Rubro-Negro, spoke about the duel.

"Overall, we played a good game. So much so that we got three points in a classic. The result makes us even more confident that we're on the right track," said Diego.
