Anyone who follows Flamengo's training sessions and matches has probably noticed that striker Diego Maurício always makes a curious gesture: he closes his eyes and places his hand on his chest. It's a way of thanking God. Religious, the center forward is grateful for every chance he gets in the Rubro-Negro's professional team. Considered a great prospect from Flamengo's youth academy, due to his physical strength and goal-scoring instinct, he has always stood out among the youth and junior teams.
In the first team, he showed talent right from his debut, and now he has three goals in 19 games wearing the red and black jersey. He quickly won over the fans, but he remains humble and dedicates his good form to his teammates.
"I'm very happy with the moment, not just for myself, but for the team. We needed a victory, and thank God I was able to help achieve this result. The whole team played very well, ran a lot, dedicated themselves, and that's why we got the win. The dedication of each one was fundamental. I'm there to score goals, that's my job, but I also have to run the whole field, mark, help in defense, and that's what I tried to do in the game against Atlético-GO. I gave my all throughout the game and God ended up blessing me with the goal at the end," said the striker, who still doesn't know if he will be a starter on Sunday against Avaí.
"Let's wait for coach Vanderlei's decision, hope that Diogo recovers, but if he chooses me, I'm ready. I will, once again, do everything to honor this jersey and bring joy to the Flamengo Nation, which is wonderful," he noted.
Happy with the recognition he receives from the stands, the striker is keen to emphasize the importance of fan support in helping him perform even better on the field.
"I work every day to earn this recognition, and I'm very happy to know that the fans are enjoying my football. It's great to have this support. God has been very good to me, and I truly appreciate all the affection I've been receiving from the fans. I'm extremely grateful to the Flamengo fans. Of course, they demand a lot, they want to see results, but they've always supported me, given me a lot of strength, and I'm very happy," he concluded.
