It's not easy for a striker who was accustomed to finding the net in almost every game in the youth ranks to make his professional debut, play six games, and not score a single goal. That's why Diego Maurício can't hide his excitement about scoring his first goal for Flamengo's senior team.
However, while he can't wait to end this short spell, the center forward guarantees that the most important thing is to help Flamengo leave the field with victories, regardless of whether he scores goals.
"The anxiety is great. We want to score, but the most important thing is to help the team on the field, run a lot and give our all so we can come away with victories. Everything has its time," said the 19-year-old player, who made his first start for Flamengo's professional team last Wednesday (14.07), against Botafogo.
"This first opportunity was important for me. I'm happy with this chance to showcase my work. I tried my best to help us win. Now I have to keep this momentum going and race hard again on Sunday and try to come back with three more points from Goiás," he said.
Gaining experience with each day of work, Diego thanks God and Rogério Lourenço for the opportunities and promises the fans that he will continue to strive and do his best for Flamengo.
"I'm gaining experience little by little. Things happened very quickly, thank God, thanks to Professor Rogério, and now it's time to keep working," he concluded.
