Diego Maurício takes the "weight off his shoulders" with his first goal
The striker now hopes to continue scoring goals against his opponents, as he did at the youth level.

Last Wednesday, July 21, 2010, will be unforgettable in the career of young Diego Maurício. The euphoria evident in his celebration, where he seemed unsure of which direction to run, the smile on his face, and the gestures of love for the Flamengo fans just 10 minutes into the match against Avaí show why. After a great pass from Leo Moura, the number 49 struck with skill, beating the goalkeeper to not only open the scoring but also score his first professional goal for Flamengo.
"It was a wonderful feeling to score my first goal for Flamengo's first team. Our goal was to win, but we got seven points in three games, we're still fighting for the top four and now we have to go to Sunday, the next game, and try to score another goal to keep helping Flamengo and come away with the victory," said the striker, who made his eighth appearance for the first team, in an exclusive interview with Flamengo's official website.
The anticipation for the first goal was high. But now that he's out, Diego has taken some of the responsibility and pressure off his shoulders and promises the others will come naturally.
"I've been looking for this goal for a long time and now it's lifted a bit of the weight. I was happy with the fans' excitement, I'm happy with the image I'm projecting wearing the Flamengo shirt and what I try to do is work, show my football every day," said the center forward, who, regardless of scoring goals, wants to help his teammates in the best way possible, as was seen against Avaí, when he came back often to score.
"I'm here to help. Regardless of scoring goals. I think about the team first, and then about the individual. With this collective spirit, individual highlights naturally emerge. Whatever I can do and whatever Professor Rogério asks of me, I will do. That's my goal," he concluded.
