Diego hadn't scored for Flamengo since the match against Chapecoense on September 09, still in the 24th round. The number 10 found the net again this season on Wednesday night, scoring the goal that sealed the victory over Grêmio, 2-0, in the Brazilian Championship, and kept Flamengo in the title race.
After scoring in the final minutes, Diego ran to celebrate with the fans in the South section, a habit he's done before, such as against Ceará in the third round. Yesterday, it was a relief to seal the three points against a strong Grêmio team, and after the game, Diego spoke about the moment he experienced on the field.
"It was a beautiful goal. Berrío made an excellent play and the ball reached the far post. I caught it well with my left foot. It's a goal that gives me great joy, I needed it. And celebrating with the Flamengo fans is always the highlight, the greatest joy, without a doubt."

The 2-0 result prevented the end of the Brazilian Championship and maintained the red-and-black team's chances of winning the trophy in the remaining two rounds. For Diego, these are factors that increase the importance of the goal and the victory. The number 10 also commented on Flamengo's solid performance, which gave Grêmio few chances.
"I'm very happy. Firstly, for the team's victory, at an important moment in the season and against one of the best teams in Brazil. We played a very good game, at a very high level, as a team. We dominated the match, they had a few chances, but overall, it was a deserved victory and we owned it."
Flamengo returns to action on Sunday against Cruzeiro at Mineirão Stadium at 17 p.m. for the 37th round of the Brazilian Championship. Watch the goals from the victory over Grêmio through the lens of FlaTV below.
