With Leandro Amaral or Val Baiano, or even alone in attack, Diogo is available to Rogério Lourenço to debut this Thursday (26.08), at Maracanã. The new number 43 of Rubro-Negro should start playing against Atlético Mineiro and, although he still doesn't have the best possible chemistry with his new teammates, he promises to compensate for the lack of rhythm with a lot of dedication.
"At Portuguesa and Olympiacos, I played both further back and further forward. I don't know yet how the lineup will be, or who I'll play with, but we'll talk on the field to get things sorted. The chemistry isn't perfect yet, but with daily work, that will happen naturally," he said.
While Diogo knows he'll have the fans' support, he's also aware that the pressure to score will be intense. But he says he's ready to face this challenge head-on.
"I handle pressure naturally. The striker and the goalkeeper are the ones who are most pressured. The fans support me when I score, but they demand a lot when I don't. Both me and Leandro, Val, and Borja, if we don't score, there will be pressure, and that's normal," said the player, who also explained that he will need to readapt to Brazilian football.
"Football is very different. There they give a lot of beatings (laughs) and try to get very close to English football. Here, the teams try to play the game a lot, it's more closed there," he concluded.
