The applause and shouts of "Diogo" from the Maracanã stands leave no doubt: Flamengo's new number 43 has been approved by the Rubro-Negro Nation. The only thing missing for a perfect debut was a goal, but his dribbling, speed, quality touch, and movement impressed. And of course, there's a fundamental characteristic for a player wearing the red-and-black jersey: fighting spirit.
It's true that he felt a bit out of rhythm and asked to be substituted in the 33rd minute of the second half, but while he was on the field, Diogo gave the Atlético defense a lot of trouble. In one of Flamengo's best chances of the match, he made a great individual play and put Leandro Amaral through on goal. An encouraging first game? Yes, but, according to him, things can still improve.
"We have a good group and the players supported me. With time, things will improve. I still have a lot to do at Flamengo. I still have a lot to show. Today was just one game," said the striker.
Despite the crowd at the Maracanã not being very large (just over 13 fans), Diogo was very pleased with the support from the fans in his first game at the stadium and asked the Nation to continue to stand by him and the team so that Flamengo can achieve a series of positive results in the coming rounds.
"Having the fans support us is good, it's great, and with their support we'll be able to get out of this bad phase. With time, we'll gel and the victories will come. I see an improvement in the team, we even created good chances, but we lacked finishing," he added.
