Making his Flamengo debut at Maracanã is motivation enough for any player. But striker Diego has even more reason to be excited for Thursday night (August 26.08). The center forward is the subject of much anticipation, both from his teammates and coaching staff, as well as from the fans, and he believes this is good for his game.
In the two training sessions he attended after being introduced, Diogo earned praise from the other members of the red-and-black squad. According to him, this kind of trust from the group is crucial when it comes to taking the field.
"It's important to have the support of my teammates. They know I come from a different league, and it's great to have the group's trust. It gives you even more motivation to dedicate yourself and help the team," said the striker, who also thanked the fans for their support.
"Flamengo's fans make a difference, and I know that. It's great to come here knowing that they trust in my potential. I'm grateful and hope to repay them with a lot of dedication on the field," he said.
And, if the game against Atlético Mineiro already has several numbers and statistics that coincide with what happened in 2009, on the back of Diogo's shirt there seems to be another good omen: the number 43.
"It's a number that brought Pet luck in the Brazilian Championship and he had a great time, so I hope to have the same luck," he concluded.
