Young Diogo arrives at Flamengo looking to establish himself and once again shine in Brazilian and international football. After excelling at Portuguesa, particularly in 2008, he went to play for Olympiacos in Greece, where he had a strong first season but will be "hidden" this year, when the team will only compete in local competitions. Back in Brazil and playing for the current national champion, the striker couldn't be more motivated and knows exactly what to do to win over the Flamengo fans: score goals.

"We know the effort the board made to bring us in, and that has to be reciprocated on the field. Playing for a club like Flamengo, it's inevitable that there won't be any pressure. That's normal, and I'll look for goals to repay that trust," he said.

The striker explained how the negotiations with Flamengo came about and stated that it shouldn't be long before he makes his debut for the Gávea team. The expectation is that he may already be included in the squad for Thursday's (26/08) game against Atlético-MG.

"The interest in me was a little more complicated, because the new coach who arrived at Olympiacos wanted to take advantage of me, but I really wanted to return to Brazil, because there I would only play in the Greek championships. I played two Champions League pre-season games, two friendlies, and I believe I just need to get back into that rhythm of play, because physically I'm in good shape," said the striker, who hopes to have the same success as Petkovic, who was the last to wear Flamengo's number 43 shirt.

 "The shirts I wore, number 7 at Portuguesa and number 10 at Olympiacos, already had an owner, so I'm going to wear number 43. I hope I have Pet's success, right?" he concluded.
