On loan from Olympiacos of Greece, striker Diogo has a contract with Flamengo until the middle of next year. As far as he's concerned, by then he'll be able to surpass the numbers he admits were a little below expectations in 2010. Since he won't play again this year, as he's suspended and won't face Santos this weekend, the number 43 will just have to cheer him on.
Cheering on his teammates, who are heading to Vila Belmiro dreaming of a victory that could take the team to the 2011 Copa Sudamericana. Disappointed that he can't play, Diogo sends positive vibes to the Flamengo fans and is confident of a positive result.
"It's frustrating not being able to play, isn't it? I really wanted to help my teammates, but I'll be cheering them on. This team has quality and can definitely beat Santos to secure a spot in the Copa Sudamericana," he stated.
And he's also hoping for better days next year. Diogo dreams not only of fulfilling his contract with Flamengo, but also of, perhaps, extending this contract, scoring more goals and winning titles wearing the Sacred Mantle (Flamengo's jersey).
"I believe that next year I can perform better. Playing here in Brazil is different compared to Europe; it's a complicated league, and I hope to improve with the preseason for next year. My desire is to stay at Flamengo, maybe even longer than until the middle of the year, to score goals and win titles here," he concluded.
Diogo was signed mid-year to try and solve the lack of goals in Flamengo's attacking system. With great speed and determination, he played well, but only scored once during the season.
