Diogo says he is ready to face Santos

The striker should start playing against Peixe this Sunday at Maracanã

"I was able to recover well during the week and I'm ready for the game." The words that the fans so wanted to hear came from the mouth of striker Diogo in a press conference given after training this Saturday (04.09), at Ninho do Urubu. The number 43 recovered from an ankle injury that forced him out of the game against Cruzeiro, in the middle of the week, and is in the squad for the match against Santos, on Sunday, at Maracanã (05.09).

And he may have a new attacking duo this weekend. Silas hasn't confirmed his team yet, but he and the newly signed Deivid are expected to start against Peixe. The chemistry is obviously not yet ideal, but Diogo is betting on the success of this attack.

"We've had little training time, but I believe things can happen on the field. Silas hasn't decided on the starting lineup yet, but we're confident. We've been getting along well since we left training for Barra. We're staying in the same hotel and talked a lot on the way there," said the striker, who praised the presence of president Patricia Amorim at Saturday's training session.

"It's always good to have the president around. This shows that she came to show her support for the team," he noted.

The center forward believes that this Sunday's game will not be easy, despite the Santos team being quite short-handed, but he is confident of a positive result.

"Although Santos is missing some players, they have quality and we need to be careful. But at the same time, we need the win no matter what," he concluded.
