Creating chances, running, finishing... Striker Diogo is getting fitter and proving his worth at Flamengo. With his quality and drive, the center forward has been winning over the Flamengo fans and firmly establishing himself on the team. Now, with Deivid as his attacking partner, he's still searching for the best possible chemistry, but in his first game alongside his new partner, against Santos, he already demonstrated what the duo can do.
He excitedly explains why the attackers are coming back often to create scoring opportunities and says that they both do everything they can to prevent one from wearing out more than the other.
"With the team playing with three defensive midfielders, we need to drop back a bit more to create. I like playing this role, and so does Deivid. So, we take turns getting the ball, trying one-twos, to prevent one of us from getting too tired. We're not perfectly in sync yet, but that will come with time," he said.
The number 43 also commented on the red-black team's goal drought and warned that he only cares about putting the ball in, without knowing how or how to celebrate.
"I'm not thinking about celebrating. The important thing is to get the ball in. It can even be with your belly (laughs). But we have to stay calm. One day the ball will go in and we can't despair about that," said the player, who showed himself ready to help Flamengo break its goal drought and leave behind its record of being the worst attack in the Brasileirão.
"I'm already much better. In the last game, I still felt a bit of the injury, but I'm getting better, I've been able to train better and I believe I'll be able to improve. São Paulo is a great team, it's going to be a tough match, but I hope to help Flamengo come away with a victory," he added.
