His childhood in Nova Iguaçu wasn't easy, but Deivid always had three inseparable companions by his side in the fight to realize his dream of becoming a professional soccer player: his Flamengo jersey, his ball, and his battery-powered radio. A Flamengo fan since childhood, he knows all too well the mystique of a classic involving millions of fans and is thrilled to be playing in this match next Sunday.
"For me, it will be a privilege to play between Flamengo and Vasco. It's a great feeling. When I was little, on the radio, and even at the stadium, I watched this game a lot. A match like this excites the city. I hope to play well, obviously scoring goals, but my focus is on winning, as is the entire team's," he said.
After winning numerous titles and achieving success with various clubs throughout his career, the center forward returned to Brazilian football this year to fulfill his dream of playing for his favorite club. And he guarantees that it's making a difference.
"When we become professionals, we have to try to keep our fan hearts as far away as possible. We must always respect the team we're playing for. But when we have the opportunity to play for the team we support, everything doubles. Honestly, I'm happy with the victories and very sad with the defeats. Just like the fans, or even more so. I know what it's like. A while ago, I was there, in the crowd, on the radio, and today, on the field, I even find myself thinking about it," said the center forward, who also recalled memorable moments from his time as a fan.
"I have a more distant memory of the final, of Cocada's goal, because I was listening to it on the radio and I remember him coming on, scoring the goal, and being sent off. But I also remember Pet's goal in the final, in the 43rd minute of the second half. I was at Santos, I was already a player, but I was very happy with the result of my favorite team. It was a beautiful goal," he concluded.
