He had the will, but Adriano couldn't win the battle against lower back pain. Despite the optimism shown on Friday (April 09.04th), the striker is out of the classic against Vasco this Sunday (April 11.04th). The Emperor went to Gávea this Saturday (April 10.04th), but was ultimately ruled out by the Medical Department due to back pain. His replacement has not yet been decided by coach Andrade.

Adriano's injury was detected after training last Saturday at Ninho do Urubu. Throughout the week, he took painkillers, underwent electrotherapy, physiotherapy sessions, and even trained with the ball on Friday. But the pain returned, and therefore, the striker will be rested for the Taça Rio semi-final.

"He's better, he's improving, but he's still feeling pain. He's not fit to play. The player always wants to play, wants to help, but we talked to him. Now we'll observe him over the next few days to see if he's fit to play on Wednesday," explained Flamengo's doctor, Marcio Tanure.

According to right-back Leonardo Moura, the Emperor will be missed by the Flamengo team. Therefore, the team will dedicate themselves even more to achieving victory.

"It's very sad to be without Adriano. He's an important player for the group and, of course, we miss him. But we'll go onto the field with the same determination we showed on Thursday, when he also didn't play," he said.

It's worth remembering that, in the only time Flamengo and Vasco faced each other this season, it was Adriano who scored the winning goal for Flamengo, 1-0, at the Maracanã.
