The days in Teresópolis are not only a time for intense training, but have also shown some players what it truly means to be at such a large club. The onslaught of fans and the press has already made defender Douglas, signed from Santo André, aware of the change his career is undergoing. At 23, he acknowledges that the transition to a new professional reality is difficult.

"The difference is huge, starting with the number of microphones during interviews. It can be a bit scary, but it also helps you realize the importance of defending Flamengo. You have to be prepared to be happy, but also to be held accountable," the defender analyzed.

With coach Cuca's initial intention to field a three-man center-back, Douglas knows he'll have to fight hard for a spot on the team. He sees himself as equal to his teammates, but he makes it clear that his intention is to establish himself on the team.

"Cuca talked to me and said he's worked with players like me. I want to be useful, and that's what I've been dedicating myself to, to get a chance and deliver," said Douglas, who seeks constant advice from captain Fabio Luciano. "I'm always close to him; he's a wonderful person, always willing to help. He's a role model, as are Ibson and Jônatas, who always help and joke around to relax newcomers."
