The goal of every Flamengo player is to join the Rubro-Negro's first team. However, this isn't possible for everyone. And for those who haven't yet established themselves, a great opportunity has arisen: the Brazilian Under-23 Championship. With the arrival of a new coaching staff, every opportunity to prove themselves is important, and this competition will be a good showcase for these athletes. This is the case with midfielder Rômulo.
The player, who strongly identifies with Flamengo, having been in the club's youth ranks since he was a child, emphasizes the importance of wearing the red and black jersey regardless of the competition. Happy with another opportunity, he makes no secret of his goal of returning to the starting lineup, as he did in important matches this season, such as against Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores, but he says he will give his all in this tournament.
"The player needs to play to show what he can do, especially since the coach just arrived and we haven't had much time to train. It's tough for him to watch. Besides, we have to honor this jersey. It's always great to play for Flamengo, and we'll definitely give it our all. We're 100% focused and happy with this opportunity," said the midfielder, who will reunite with some former teammates from Flamengo's youth academy in this group, such as Vander and Amendoim.
"I've already spoken to the coach. I know the players there quite well, as some of them played with me in the youth academy and didn't get a chance in the first team, ending up going in other directions. It's a great opportunity for them, and everyone knows that. Everyone here is aware that this is a great opportunity, and I'm confident I'll do my best," he said.
Accustomed to classics against Fluminense, he expects another great game next weekend, when the team will debut in the competition.
"Clássico draws attention. Of course, Flamengo's main focus is the Brazilian Championship, but our fans support us in everything, and when the team enters a tournament, it's to be champion. Starting against Fluminense, against whom we've had a rivalry since early on, is good, and it will be important to debut with a victory," he added.
