Ederson resumes work at CT George Helal
Athlete makes a full recovery from tumor and returns to training
By Matheus Oliveira - inAfter a period of absence due to treatment for a testicular tumor, midfielder Ederson returned to training at Ninho do Urubu, aiming to recondition himself to join the other players in training. His rapid recovery allowed him to return ahead of schedule, confirming he is 100% tumor-free.
While recovering from a knee injury, routine tests revealed a significant hormonal increase in the athlete, which raised suspicions among the club's doctors. Further evaluations confirmed the diagnosis in July 2017. In addition to surgeries to remove the tumor, twenty-one chemotherapy sessions marked the treatment process. Respiratory physiotherapy sessions, aimed at mitigating the effects of chemotherapy, marked the end of Ederson's battle.
Upon returning to action, the 32-year-old completed physical and technical rehabilitation exercises. Led by trainer Roberto Oliveira, strength exercises were performed at Flamengo's Performance Excellence Center (CEP FLA), followed by specific ball training on the pitch at Field 3 at Ninho do Urubu.
Other players participated in technical and tactical training on Field 4, aiming for the Guanabara Cup semifinal. At the end of the training session, Everton Ribeiro appeared in the Victorino Chermont Press Room, where he gave a press conference. The number 7 expressed the entire squad's joy at Ederson's return, praising the midfielder's handling of adversity.
"It was a very nice surprise. I ran into him when I got to the locker room and we talked. He broke the news that he was coming back and everyone was extremely happy. He's a winner and he's getting back to doing what he loves," he commented.
According to Everton, the lesson that remains goes beyond the four lines. "His greatest virtue at that moment was facing it with joy. Regardless of the situation, he was always optimistic and didn't want to see anyone sad about everything that was happening. If there's one lesson from all of this, it's that you have to be strong and stay positive. He will certainly encourage many people with his life story. He's a warrior, and now he's training with us again," celebrated Everton.
On the morning of this Friday (09), the red-black preparation for the classic against Botafogo will come to an end at CT. The match, which will be played at the Raulino de Oliveira stadium, in Volta Redonda, and will have the ball rolling from 16:30 pm, will define Boavista's opponent in the decision of the Guanabara Cup.
