In order to develop a strategy to ensure the safety and comfort of Flamengo fans and residents of Ilha do Governador on match days at Arena da Ilha, president Eduardo Bandeira de Mello and councilwoman Tânia Bastos met this Monday (6) at the Gávea headquarters. Also present were the club's general director, Fred Luz, vice-presidents Roberto Magalhães Diniz and Luiz Filipe Teixeira, as well as members of the councilwoman's entourage and the superintendent - a position that replaces the deputy mayor - of the neighborhood, Daniel Balbi.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the needs of those living near the stadium, as well as organization, security, and access to the Arena on match days, as the venue will host a large number of fans. President Bandeira de Mello assured that the club is available to assist with anything needed.
"We don't want to cause any confusion for the residents of Ilha, which is a neighborhood that has a strong connection with Flamengo. On the contrary, we want to enhance the region. And the game times shouldn't be detrimental, as most of them are on Wednesday nights or weekend afternoons. Ilha can count on the club to help with whatever is necessary," he said, followed by Fred Luz, who assured that the Rubro-Negro will address the matter with all the seriousness it demands.
"Our administration has always been guided by acting responsibly. The quality of the work we are doing on the Island is to provide security for fans. It's different from what has been done before. This conversation is good because it reinforces and anticipates discussions and decision-making that were already on our agenda," he explained.
Councilwoman Tânia Bastos brought to the Flamengo representatives the issues raised by the Island's residents, who expressed concern about transportation planning, access and security - points that Flamengo has already guaranteed will be addressed with due care.
"I met with some residents concerned about the games and the potential impact they could have on the area, given the double the number of fans who will be arriving in the neighborhood. Since the city government has never supported the games in previous administrations, I understand that the government and private sector need to organize the fans' arrival with comfort and safety to ensure the residents' rights," said Tânia.
This Tuesday (7), at 19 pm, on Ilha do Governador, the matter will be discussed again in a new meeting, this time with the presence of representatives of the neighborhood and public bodies such as CET-Rio, Military Police and Comlurb.
