Egídio's time has come. After a good season at Vitória, the left-back returns to Gávea, as he himself says, to "grab the number six shirt and never let it go." A product of the club's youth academy, he returns to Flamengo at a time when homegrown talent is being valued, more mature and with the confidence of coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo. Factors that make all the difference, making him feel even more confident that 2011 could be the best year of his career.

Having played for Clube de Regatas do Flamengo for 13 years, Egídio has been considered a great prospect since a very young age. However, due to strong competition for positions in his role, he had few opportunities in the professional squad and was loaned to several clubs since 2007, when he wore the Paraná jersey. For Flamengo, he played 22 games in a total of seven seasons, providing four assists. Now he wants to achieve much more.

"I've been here since I was 11 years old, waiting for this opportunity. I have the confidence of the board and the coaching staff, which motivates me to have a good pre-season and make a good debut on the 19th. My goal is to work hard, gain confidence, and take on this number six jersey and never let it go," he explained.

And Egídio arrives at Gávea feeling at home. He will be working alongside professionals he already knows, both on the coaching staff and on the field. Several players, such as Welinton, Paulo Victor, Renato, Marcelo Lomba, Leonardo Moura, and Ronaldo Angelim, have already played alongside the full-back.

"It's important to have this contact. I've already worked with most of the players and I feel at home here. This is very beneficial and I believe everything will work out," he concluded.

Egidio de Araújo Pereira Junior was born on June 16, 1986, is 24 years old and 1,74m tall. His first game was a 2-1 victory over Friburguense on January 19, 2003. With Flamengo, Egidio won the 2006 Copa do Brasil and the 2008 and 2009 Carioca Championships, in addition to several titles in youth categories, such as the Copa Cultura and the Copa Record in 2005.
