While waiting for the resolution on the situation of his contract between Flamengo and Panathinaikos, David was the target of many jokes from the red-black group. Training without knowing when he would be able to return to the field for the Gávea team, the defender had to endure his teammates' provocations in silence. But now, with the bond extended for another four years, he promises to take revenge. And this Friday (13.08).

After all, as is often the case on the eve of matches, Flamengo is scheduled to hold a recreational training session at Ninho do Urubu, where David plays as a striker for the red team and often jokes around with his teammates. Known as one of the most energetic players in the group, he warns that he won't let things slide.

"Now it's my turn. They'll have to put up with me for another four years. Tomorrow there's a fight and I'll go inside them," he promised, in an exclusive interview with Flamengo's official website.

Jokes aside, the defender celebrated his contract renewal and expressed relief at the happy outcome of negotiations that had been ongoing for over a month. In good physical shape, the player spoke with coach Rogério Lourenço and is not expected to start against Ceará on Saturday (August 14.08) due to a slight loss of match rhythm, but he made himself available to the coach whenever needed.

"I'm very happy to have renewed. It certainly gives a feeling of relief. It's annoying to train without knowing when you'll play again, but I stayed calm, worked hard and I'm ready to help. The coach will make his choices, we've already talked and my goal is to be a starter for Flamengo, as I have been," he said.

Thanks to the Nation – Beloved by the fans for his good-humored spirit, and also for having scored one of the goals in the 2-1 victory over Grêmio in the last round of the Brasileirão last year, David thanked the red-blacks for their support and for the requests for contract renewal he received.

"People sent me a lot of messages on Twitter and I was very happy, because it's a sign of recognition for my work here at Flamengo. I can tell the fans that I'll definitely do my best to live up to all of this on the field," said the defender before revealing that the new signings are also suffering from his jokes.

"We give everyone a nickname. That's normal. I even forget some, but you can add one here: Borja is the Odvan of our rachão team," he concluded.
